After His resurrection, Jesus visited His friends many times. One day, while having a meal with His friends, Jesus said to them, “Do not leave Jerusalem. Wait for the Holy Spirit to come.” Why did God send the Holy Spirit to Jesus’ friends? Everything God does is right. God knew that giving the Holy Spirit to Jesus’ friends was the right thing to do, as the Holy Spirit would help them tell others about Jesus.

Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit. Soon, Jesus returned to His home in heaven. The disciples watched Jesus ascend to heaven, they watched and watched until they could no longer see Him. Then the disciples returned to Jerusalem to wait for the arrival of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus’ friends waited and waited. Finally, the day came. The friends were all gathered together. Suddenly, it sounded like a strong wind filled the room where they were sitting. The friends looked at each other, they saw something wonderful, small flames of fire fell on each of Jesus’ friends’ heads. The fire signified that God’s Holy Spirit had come upon each person who loved Jesus.

The Holy Spirit helped the disciples share the truth about Jesus. People from all over Jerusalem heard and came to listen to them speak. Everyone understood what Jesus’ friends were saying, but they were still puzzled. They asked each other, “What does this mean?”

Disciple Peter began to speak loudly so that everyone could hear. Peter explained everything that God had done. Peter told the people about the Holy Spirit and Jesus. He told everyone that Jesus died on the cross, but God had resurrected Him. This was God’s promise. God always keeps His promises. Everything God does is right. The Holy Spirit helped Peter share the truth about Jesus. Peter said, “We saw Jesus die, we saw Jesus resurrected. We saw Jesus return to heaven.” Peter and other friends of Jesus wanted everyone to know the truth about Jesus. They wanted people to believe what is true. Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected to save people from sin and give them eternal life. Peter knew that those who love Jesus have eternal life. Peter told the people, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Acts 2:21)

The people of Jerusalem listened to what Peter said. Do you think they believed the truth about Jesus? Do you think they started to love Jesus? Yes! Many, many people started to love Jesus. Many, many people became children of God. The Holy Spirit helped Peter share the truth about Jesus. The Holy Spirit helps the children of God share the truth about Jesus.
