Once, there was a shepherd boy who watched over the village sheep. He grew bored watching the sheep graze and decided to play a prank to amuse himself.

With a mischievous glint in his eyes, the boy cried out, “Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!” His voice echoed through the hills, reaching the ears of the villagers.

Hearing the boy's cry, the villagers ran up the hill to drive the wolf away. But when they arrived, they found no wolf. The boy was amused, seeing their angry faces.

Angrily, the villagers warned the boy, “Don’t scream wolf when there is no wolf!” They then trudged back down the hill, their grumbles filling the air.

Not long after, the boy again cried, “Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!” Once more, the villagers came running. And once more, they found no wolf.

Frustrated, they reprimanded, “Save your frightened cry for when there really is a wolf!” But the boy just grinned, watching them walk grumbling down the hill.

Later, the boy saw a real wolf prowling around his flock. Fear replaced his earlier amusement. He jumped to his feet, crying out as loud as he could.

“Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!” he cried. But this time, his cry echoed unanswered. The villagers, fooled twice before, did not come.

The boy watched helplessly as the wolf chased his sheep. His heart pounded as he realized the consequence of his lies. But it was too late to rectify his mistake.

Later, the villagers discovered the scattered flock and the distressed boy. They realized a real wolf had come, but their trust in the boy's cries had been shattered.

The boy tried to explain, but the villagers shook their heads. They had learned a valuable lesson about trust and deception, one they wouldn't forget.

And the boy, in his folly, had learned a bitter lesson too. He understood that trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild. His playful pranks had cost him dearly.
