Once upon a time, in a small village nestled by the mountains, there lived a cap seller named John. He was known for his colourful and beautifully crafted caps.

John would travel from village to village, selling his caps. He carried them in a large basket on his head, delighting everyone with his vibrant selection.

One hot afternoon, John decided to rest under a big shady tree. He placed his basket beside him and closed his eyes for a short nap.

Meanwhile, a mischievous monkey, living in the tree, watched John curiously. It jumped down, approached the basket and began inspecting the caps.

Finding the caps interesting, the monkey picked up one and put it on its head. It then started tossing the other caps, one by one, to its fellow monkeys in the tree.

When John woke up, he was shocked to see his basket empty. He looked around and saw his caps on the heads of the monkeys, who were chattering happily in the tree.

John tried to shoo the monkeys away, but they just mimicked him, making him more frustrated. He even tried climbing the tree, but the monkeys climbed higher.

After several failed attempts, John sat down, feeling defeated. But then, an idea popped into his mind. He remembered that monkeys often imitate humans.

John decided to use this trait to his advantage. He took off his own cap and threw it on the ground. The monkey, watching John, did the same.

One by one, all the monkeys threw their caps down, mimicking John. He quickly collected all his caps and put them back into the basket.

The monkeys looked at each other, surprised and confused. They realized that they had been tricked by John, but it was too late.

John laughed and waved at the monkeys. He was relieved and proud of his clever trick. With a light heart, he continued his journey to the next village.

The monkeys, though they felt fooled, also learned a valuable lesson. They decided not to meddle with anyone's belongings in the future.

As for John, he became more famous in the surrounding villages. Not just for his beautiful caps, but also for his cleverness in outsmarting the monkeys.

He also learned an important lesson that day. He realized that intelligence could often prove more powerful than physical strength.

The story of John and the monkeys spread far and wide. Children in the village would often reenact the amusing incident, laughing and learning from it.

John continued selling his caps, bringing joy to many. Yet, he always remembered to keep a watchful eye on his goods, to avoid any monkey business.

The monkeys, on the other hand, remembered to respect other's belongings. They would often watch John from a distance, but never dared to touch his caps again.

Both John and the monkeys continued to live their lives, learning and growing from their encounter. It was a story of wit over mischief, a tale remembered by all.

And so, the tale of the cap seller and the monkey serves as a reminder to us all. A reminder that wisdom often comes in handy in the most unexpected of situations.

The villagers often retold the story, passing down the wisdom of John and the lesson learned by the monkeys, from one generation to the next.

And although John and the monkeys are long gone, their story continues to live on, bringing laughter and teaching valuable lessons to everyone who hears it.
