The vulture wheeled idly in the air, scanning the ground below for a meal. His keen eyes spotted what looked like a carcass.

As the vulture descended, he was shocked to find Brer Fox alive. The fox growled, revealing his plan to catch a rabbit in the tree.

Brer Fox proposed a plan to the vulture. If the bird kept watch on the rabbit's hole, the fox would get his axe to widen it.

While the fox ran off, the rabbit inside the tree overheard the plan and devised a cunning trick to escape the vulture.

The rabbit called out to the vulture, lying about a rat on the other side of the tree. The greedy vulture went to investigate.

With the vulture gone, the rabbit seized the chance, bolting out of the tree and running off into the distance.

The vulture saw the rabbit escaping, but it was too late. He sighed, lamenting his missed chance for a meal.

Brer Fox returned with his axe, ready to catch the rabbit. Seeing the vulture's sly look, the fox grew suspicious.

The fox started to widen the hole in the tree, pausing only to order the vulture to check for the rabbit inside.

The vulture, quaking with fear, peered into the hole and confirmed the rabbit's escape, causing the fox to lose his temper.

The fox, furious at the vulture's incompetence, chased the bird around the tree, thwacking him with his axe.

With the vulture gone and the rabbit escaped, the fox, tired and hungry, slunk off home, defeated by the day's events.
