Mrs. Johnson, Billy's mother, wanted everything to be perfect for his birthday. She planned to wash all of Billy's favorite clothes for the party.

As Mrs. Johnson loaded the clothes into the washing machine, it made a strange noise and stopped working. It seemed like the washing machine had decided to go on strike.

Billy, hearing the noise, came running. Seeing the broken machine, he was worried his favorite clothes wouldn't be ready for the party.

Mrs. Johnson decided to call Mr. Jenkins, the handyman, to fix the washing machine. But he was out of town for a week.

Billy was disappointed but then he had an idea. 'Mom, why don't we wash the clothes the old-fashioned way, like Grandma used to?' he suggested.

They collected a bucket, soap, and filled it with water. Billy rolled up his sleeves, ready to help his mom wash the clothes.

They spent the afternoon washing, rinsing, and wringing out the clothes. It was hard work but they had fun, splashing water and laughing together.

As the sun set, they admired their hard work. The clothes were clean and smelled of sunshine and soap. The washing machine's strike didn't ruin their plans after all.
