Once upon a time, there was a little red hen who lived on a bustling farm. She was a hardworking hen who loved to bake delicious bread.

One day, while pecking around the farmyard, the little red hen found some grains of wheat. 'Who will help me plant these grains of wheat?' she asked.

'Not I,' said the cat, busy napping. 'Not I,' said the dog, busy digging. 'Not I,' said the duck, busy swimming. 'Then I will plant them myself,' said the hen, and she did.

The grains of wheat grew tall and strong. When they were ready to harvest, the little red hen asked, 'Who will help me cut the wheat?' The other animals replied similarly as before, so the hen did it herself.

After cutting the wheat, the little red hen asked, 'Who will help me grind the wheat into flour?' Again, the other animals declined, leaving the hen to do the work.

Finally, the little red hen asked, 'Who will help me bake the bread?' The other animals replied in the same manner, 'Not I.' 'Then I will bake it myself,' said the hen, and she did.

When the bread was done, it smelled so good that all the animals came running to the kitchen. 'Who will help me eat this bread?' asked the little red hen.

'I will!' said the cat. 'I will!' said the dog. 'I will!' said the duck. But the little red hen shook her head and said, 'No, I will eat it myself.' And she did.

The little red hen enjoyed her bread, knowing that she had earned it through her hard work. And from that day on, the other animals learned that if they wanted to share in the rewards, they needed to help with the work.
