Geo Umizoomi walked with his friends through the neighborhood, trying to act brave as the night grew deeper and stranger. Beside him were Milli, cheerful but nervous, Bot, blinking with concern, and their playful Team Umizoomi friends, all huddled close together. "It is getting really spooky out here, and every shadow looks like it might jump up and say boo, so maybe we should stay together and keep walking carefully," said Milli.
The friends froze when they saw a ghost floating above the grass, shining with a strange silver light. Its hollow eyes seemed to stare right through them, and the wind suddenly sounded like whispering voices. "Warning, warning, unidentified spooky object ahead, and my circuits strongly suggest that we should run for our lives immediately," cried Bot.
Geo Umizoomi and the others screamed, “Ahh!” as they ran as fast as they could from the ghost. They did not stop at the corner, and they did not stop by the park, because fear pushed them faster and faster through the dark. "Do not look back, just keep running, because that ghost is following us and I do not want to find out what happens if it catches us," shouted Geo Umizoomi.
The friends skidded to a stop only to see a zombie blocking their path, and they screamed even louder than before. The zombie lifted its arms, groaning in the dim light, while the ghost drifted closer behind them through the fog. "Ahh, first a ghost and now a zombie, this is the scariest night ever and I think my knees are shaking harder than my voice," cried Milli.
Geo Umizoomi and the others rushed to the porch and told Geo’s mom what had happened, speaking over one another in frightened gasps. But when they looked up and saw her dressed as a witch, they all screamed again, stumbling backward in total panic. "Oh my goodness, slow down and tell me everything, because I only put on this costume for fun, and I did not mean to frighten any of you," said Geo’s mom.
When the group turned to look, they saw more scary things and animals all around them, and once again they screamed, “Ahhh!” A black cat leaped from a barrel, a dog barked from behind a hedge, and the owl spread its wings so suddenly that everyone ducked. "This environment has reached maximum spookiness, with alarming sounds, moving shadows, and far too many creatures appearing at exactly the wrong moment," said Bot.
Then Team Umizoomi friends suddenly shouted boo, trying to scare the ghost, the zombie, and everything else that had frightened them. To their surprise, the ghost yelped, the zombie jumped, and even the animals scattered with startled cries of “Ahh!” "Wait a second, if they got scared too, maybe they are not terrifying monsters at all, and maybe this whole night has been one giant misunderstanding," said Geo Umizoomi.
The ghost turned out to be a neighbor in a sheet costume, and the zombie was another friend dressed up for spooky fun. Everyone stood still for one long moment, and then the fear broke into laughter that filled the yard. "Tonight looked scary because darkness makes everything feel bigger and stranger, but now that we can see clearly, we know there is nothing here to fear except our own imaginations," said Geo’s mom.
Geo Umizoomi smiled at his friends, still a little shaky but much braver than before. They talked about the ghost, the zombie, the witch costume, the scary animals, and all the times they had screamed “Ahh!” during the wild night. "Next time we hear a boo in the dark, let us remember to look twice before we panic, because sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the funniest stories," said Milli.
