Queen Alamelamma, the ruler of Srirangapatna, was burdened with the responsibility of ruling her kingdom, as her husband was gravely ill.

Her husband, King Sri Ranga Raya, was seeking solace in the temple of Vaidyesvara in Talakad, leaving Alamelamma to fend off enemies.

The treacherous Raja Wodeyar of Mysore sought to seize Srirangapatna's wealth, threatening the stability of Alamelamma's reign.

Faced with the looming threat, Alamelamma made a desperate decision to protect her kingdom and her husband's legacy.

With her kingdom under threat and her husband’s health deteriorating, Alamelamma traveled to Talakad to bid him farewell.

Feeling helpless, she chose to drown herself in the River Kaveri, her jewels sinking with her into the depths.

As she met her tragic end, she uttered a powerful curse against both Talakad and the Mysore dynasty.

Her words resonated with the power of her sacrifice and the betrayal she had faced, sealing the fate of Talakad and the Mysore rulers.

The curse took effect, and the once vibrant city of Talakad was lost to time, its temples and palaces buried beneath shifting sands.

The Mysore dynasty, too, suffered the consequences of Alamelamma's curse, with their rule marked by strife and turmoil.

Alamelamma's sacrifice left a lasting impact, her story standing as a testament to the lengths one would go to protect their legacy.

Even today, the buried city of Talakad and the tale of Alamelamma's curse serve as reminders of the weight of betrayal and the power of a queen's love for her kingdom.
