In the kingdom of Babylon, King Nebuchadnezzar II reigned with an iron fist. He was a man of grandeur and vanity, known for his vast golden statue erected in the plain of Dura.

The king issued a decree that when the royal musicians played their tunes, everyone must fall down and worship the golden statue. Those who refused would be thrown into a fiery furnace.

Among the king’s subjects were three Jewish men: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They were known for their devout faith in God and would not bow to any idol.

When the music played, as everyone bowed, the three men remained standing. They defied the king's decree, refusing to worship the golden image.

Their defiance soon reached the king's ears. Furious, Nebuchadnezzar summoned the men, offering them another chance to bow to the statue.

Yet, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego remained steadfast. They respectfully told the king they would not bow to his statue nor serve his gods.

Enraged, the king ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual. He commanded his strongest soldiers to tie up the three men and cast them into the flames.

The furnace was so hot that the soldiers who threw them in were consumed by the flames. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fell into the furnace, bound and seemingly doomed.

However, something miraculous occurred. Instead of being consumed by the flames, the three men were walking freely in the furnace, unharmed.

Nebuchadnezzar was astounded. He peered into the furnace and saw not three, but four figures. The fourth was like a divine being, protecting the three men.
