"Bones, you shouldn't do this!" the princess protested, her voice echoing in the empty room. But the skeleton, already halfway into the body, only shrugged.

"Why not? It's just skin," Bones said, her new voice sounding strange to her own ears. It was softer, sweeter... more human.

The princess frowned, watching as Bones adjusted her new body, running slender fingers over the soft skin. "It's not just skin, it's me," she argued.

Bones tilted her new head, looking at the princess through the mirror. "Well, you're not using it anymore, are you?" she retorted.

The princess sighed, her ethereal form shimmering in the dim light. "That's not the point, Bones," she said. "It's just... wrong."

Bones shrugged again, her new shoulders surprisingly flexible. "I don't see why. It's not like I'm hurting anyone."

The princess looked at her helplessly. "Bones, please. You don't know what you're getting into."

But Bones was already slipping on the princess's dress, admiring her new figure in the mirror. "I think I can handle it," she said.

The princess watched in silence as Bones left the room, her new body moving with a grace she had never possessed as a skeleton.

In the days that followed, Bones reveled in her new form. She loved the way the dress hugged her curves, the softness of her skin.

She loved the way people looked at her, the way they treated her. It was an intoxicating feeling, one she had never experienced before.

But the princess was always there, watching her with sad eyes. "Bones, this isn't right," she would say, but Bones just ignored her.

As the days turned into weeks, the novelty of being human began to wear off. The dress felt tight, the skin too sensitive.

People's stares became intrusive, their compliments irritating. "You're so beautiful," they would say, but to Bones, it felt like a lie.

The princess was always there, her words a constant reminder. "Bones, you're not happy," she would say, her voice full of concern.

Finally, Bones admitted the truth. "You're right," she said, looking at the princess through tear-filled eyes. "I'm not happy."

The princess reached out to her, her ethereal hand passing through Bones's skin. "It's not too late," she said gently. "You can still go back."

And so, Bones made the decision to return to her old form. She shed the princess's skin, her body, her life.

As she stood there, back in her skeletal form, she felt a sense of relief. She was herself again, and that was all she wanted.

The princess smiled at her, her ethereal form shimmering in the dim light. "I'm proud of you, Bones," she said. "You made the right choice."

Bones grinned at her, her skeletal form somehow more alive than it had ever been. "Thanks," she said. "It feels good to be me."

The princess watched as Bones walked away, her old form moving with a grace she had never possessed as a human.

And as she watched her go, the princess felt a sense of peace. Bones was happy, and that was all that mattered.

From then on, Bones lived her life as a skeleton, content with who she was. She no longer desired to be someone else, to live someone else's life.

And the princess, always by her side, was there to remind her of the beauty of being true to oneself. Because in the end, that's all that truly matters.
