The Tale of Two Crows
By Storybird

06 Aug, 2023

Once upon a time in the deep, dense forest of Arangorn, there resided two unusual crows. One crow was as black as a starless night, and the other was as white as pure snowfall.

These crows were named Noir and Blanc, respectfully, and they were the best of friends. Though different in color, they shared a special bond that was beyond any average bird companionship.

They spent most of their time together, exploring the forest and playing games. In many ways, they were just your typical crows living their typical crow lives, except, of course, their contrasting colors.

However, their distinctive colors became a subject of curiosity and sometimes, ridicule among other birds. The other crows of Arangorn had never seen a white crow before and often mocked Blanc for his peculiar appearance.

"Your feathers look like they've been washed in chalk," they would sneer, or "Will you turn black if you sit in the sun?" they'd joke. Despite their harsh words, Blanc maintained his composure every time, largely because of Noir's support.

Noir, despite being black, was always there for Blanc, confronting their mockers and comforting his white friend. He often told Blanc, "Don't let their words bother you. They only show their lack of wisdom."

And Blanc, despite the constant disrespect, never held any resentment towards the other crows. He knew that their words sprang from ignorance and lack of understanding, and he wished for change, not revenge.

"One day, they'll understand that we are all the same on the inside, regardless of the color of our feathers," Blanc would say, always remaining hopeful.

In the meanwhile, the white and black crows continued their adventures, unbothered by the noise of the outside world. They explored deeper parts of the forest, encountered new creatures, and discovered hidden treasures.

One day, as they were exploring a new area, they stumbled upon a huge boulder. Blanc, being a curious bird, flew closer to examine it. As he approached, he felt a strange energy emanating from the boulder.

Out of the blue, the boulder started to glow, and a magical portal opened before them. Surprised and a bit scared, Blanc called Noir over. The black crow was just as intrigued as he was shocked.

Mustering up their courage, they decided to venture into the portal together. As they crossed through, they were transported into a whole new world—a world where everything was reversed.

In this world, black crows were mocked and ridiculed for their color, while white crows were considered normal. Noir, for the first time, encountered the discrimination that Blanc faced daily.

Despite the reversed roles, Blanc stood by Noir as he had done for him, supporting his friend in this strange, new world. The experience of being discriminated against made Noir more sympathetic towards Blanc's situation.

"I understand now, Blanc, how it feels to be different and mocked for it," Noir confided to Blanc one day. "It is not right, not fair. We must bring about change."

Together, they decided to challenge the norms of this world, just as Blanc had wished to do in their own world. They began addressing the crowds, teaching them about acceptance and equality.

Traveling from tree to tree, they shared their experiences and expressed their thoughts, forcing the crows to reconsider their views. Initially, there was resistance, but slowly they started to see the folly in their discrimination.

After several weeks of perseverance, the crows in the reversed world began to change. They apologized to Noir for their unfair treatment and vowed to treat every crow equally, regardless of their color.

Noir and Blanc were elated by the change they had brought about. However, they yearned for their own world. With a last farewell, they returned through the portal, bringing with them the lessons they had learned.

Back in their own world, they were greeted with the same ignorance and discrimination. However, this did not discourage them. They started educating the crows of their world, just as they had done in the reversed world.

Progress was slow, but eventually, attitudes started to change. Blanc’s white feathers were no longer a source of ridicule but rather a symbol of unity and acceptance. Noir, too, was praised for his bravery and conviction.

And so, Noir and Blanc brought about a revolution. They painted a brand-new picture of unity and acceptance in the deep, dense forest of Arangorn. Their story echoed throughout the forest, singing the praises of diversity.

Today, if you ever visit the forest of Arangorn, you will be greeted by the harmonious chatter of black and white crows co-existing peacefully, all thanks to Noir and Blanc.

Their tale is a lesson for all of us. It reminds us that the color of our skin, or feathers, in this case, does not define us. It's our actions and our character that truly matter.

So let's be like Noir and Blanc, embracing our differences, celebrating our diversity, and standing up against injustice. After all, it’s not the color of our feathers, but the strength of our wings that enables us to fly.
