Joe was a bright boy with a sweet smile but today he looked a little worried. It was his first day at a new school, and he was feeling a bit scared.

His mom, Mrs. Smith, tried to cheer him up with pancakes for breakfast, his favorite meal. But even the pancakes couldn’t take away his worry.

On the way to school, Joe clutched his mom's hand tightly. The school building loomed large and intimidating in front of him.

Mrs. Smith gave him a big hug before he entered the school, whispering words of encouragement in his ear. Joe felt a little better but still nervous.

As he walked into his classroom, he saw a girl sitting by herself. She looked friendly and had a big, welcoming smile.

Joe hesitated for a moment then decided to sit next to her. "Hi, I'm Joe," he said. "Nice to meet you, Joe. I'm Lily," she replied.

Lily was also new to the school. Having someone in the same situation made Joe feel less alone. They quickly became friends.

As the day went on, Joe started to enjoy his new surroundings. He liked his teacher and found the lessons interesting.

At lunch, Joe and Lily sat together. They shared their lunch and talked about their favorite things. Joe started to feel more comfortable.

After lunch, they had art class. Joe and Lily worked together on a painting. They laughed and had fun, forgetting about their fears.

In the afternoon, they played games in the playground. Joe was good at tag and Lily was great at hide and seek. They had a wonderful time.

By the end of the day, Joe realized he had nothing to be scared of. He had made a new friend and had a lot of fun.

When Mrs. Smith came to pick him up, Joe was all smiles. He told her all about his day and his new friend Lily.

Mrs. Smith was happy to see Joe so excited. She knew he was brave and could overcome his fears. She was proud of him.

That night, as Joe went to bed, he was no longer scared. He was excited about going to school again and seeing Lily.

Joe learned that trying new things can be scary, but it can also lead to wonderful experiences and friendships. He was ready for his next adventure at school.
