Lily, a fifth-grade girl, beamed with joy when she was selected for the lead role in the school play. She was ecstatic about the opportunity and couldn't wait to start practicing.
Her best friend Sarah, however, was not as thrilled. She had also auditioned for the role, and the disappointment of not being chosen was evident in her eyes.
In their shared bedroom, the excitement of Lily clashed with Sarah's disappointment. Lily tried to cheer her up, but Sarah remained upset.
"Sarah, I promise to help you practice for the next play," Lily said, hoping to ease her friend's sadness.
The day of the play arrived. Lily, dressed as a queen, looked at Sarah, who was playing a minor role. She could see the lingering disappointment in her friend's eyes.
Lily performed brilliantly, garnering applause from the audience. However, she couldn't fully enjoy her success, knowing her friend was still upset.
The next day, Sarah avoided Lily during recess. Lily felt sad but understood her friend needed time.
After a few days, Lily approached Sarah. "I miss you," she said, "Can we talk about this?" Sarah nodded, and they began to mend their friendship.
Over the next few weeks, Lily and Sarah spent a lot of time together. They talked about their feelings and worked through their issues.
"I was just jealous," Sarah admitted. "I'm really proud of you." Lily hugged Sarah tightly, glad to have her friend back.
When the auditions for the next play were announced, Lily and Sarah decided to audition together. They promised each other to be supportive, no matter the outcome.
In the end, Sarah got the lead role this time. Lily was genuinely happy for her friend, proving that their friendship was stronger than any role in a play.
