Sarah, a 6th grader, came home to a startling surprise. Everyone in her family was busy hunting for the missing key to the attic. The attic, they said, held a secret waiting to be revealed.

Sarah loved mysteries. Without wasting any time, she decided to join the search. While her family looked upstairs, she started her investigation downstairs.

After what seemed like hours of searching, she bumped into an old wooden box under her bed. She blew off the dust, revealing a tiny metal object inside.

To her surprise, it was the missing key! She was excited but also felt a strange sense of calm. It was as if the key had found her, not the other way around.

She ran upstairs to share the news. Everyone cheered, but also warned her. They spoke about the secret of the attic and the responsibility that came with it.

As Sarah ascended the creaky wooden stairs, she felt a sudden rush of nervous excitement. She cautiously inserted the key, and the attic door creaked open.

Inside, she found an old Bible, slightly tattered from age. She opened it and the pages fell open to Colossians 1:19-20.

She read aloud, "For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."

She sat there, pondering these words. They were both reassuring and daunting. It was as if she held in her hands an encoded message that she needed to decipher.

Just then, Sarah remembered a disagreement she had with her best friend, Molly. They hadn't spoken in days, and Sarah had been feeling guilty.

The words she had just read made her reflect on her actions. The scripture's theme of reconciliation and peace resounded in her mind.

She realized that just as God had sought to reconcile with humanity, she too needed to reconcile with Molly. Guided by this powerful revelation, Sarah decided to take the first step towards reconciliation.

The next day at school, Sarah approached Molly. It was difficult, but she apologized and expressed her desire to make amends. To her relief, Molly too was longing for reconciliation.

They hugged, and all their disagreements seemed trivial in the light of their friendship. Sarah felt lighter, realizing the power of the message she had uncovered from the Bible.

The secret of the attic was not just an old Bible. It was a powerful message of harmony, peace, and reconciliation that God had intended for the world, hidden for a girl like Sarah to discover.

Despite holding that message for years in the dusty attic, it had lost none of its power. It had awaited the right time and person to reveal its valuable secret.

Sarah learned something more valuable than any hidden treasure that day. She learned that reconciliation was its own kind of treasure – a key to unlocking peace and harmony.

This wisdom was passed down to her from the Scriptures, through a key, a locked attic, and an old Bible hidden away. A mystery, indeed, had been solved, and a much greater secret revealed.

And so, the tale of the lost key and the secret of the attic became a fable in Sarah's family. A story of forgiveness, peace, and reconciliation.

A story that reminded them each time of God's love, which is vast enough to reconcile everything to Himself, bringing peace through His sacrifice.

It was a story that continually encouraged them to do what was right, to seek reconciliation, to make peace where chaos abounded, just as the scripture had guided Sarah.

Sarah held on to the lesson that the key and the attic had unlocked for her. Whenever she was in a dispute, she remembered the power of reconciliation and the importance of finding peace.

She learned to be patient, understanding, and forgiving, just as God had been. She began to live out the truth Paul had written in the letter to the Colossians.

Sarah's story brings us to our journal question for the day. A question that arises directly from our verse and Sarah's experience.

"When was the last time you felt the need for reconciliation and did you take a step towards it? How did you feel after it? Can you relate to Sarah's story?"
