The boy was engrossed in his game, thumbs dancing over the controller as he navigated the virtual world. His eyes were glued to the screen, a determined look on his face.

His mother watched from the kitchen, shaking her head with an amused smile. She was busy preparing for a dinner party, but her attention was often drawn to her son's video game exploits.

In between stirring the pot and chopping vegetables, the mother tried to engage her son in conversation. 'Aren't you tired of that video game?' she asked, hoping to lure him away from the screen.

'No!' the boy exclaimed without taking his eyes off the screen. 'I gotta rescue the princess.' His mother sighed, reminiscing about her own childhood when video games didn't exist.

'When I was your age, we played outside,' she said, her voice wistful. 'Duck-Duck-Goose, Kick the can, Ollie Ollie Oxen FREE! We had so much fun.'

Her son looked at her with a curious expression, the video game momentarily forgotten. 'What are those games?' he asked, intrigued by the names.

Seeing his interest, the mother suggested, 'How about we take a break from the video game and I show you how to play these games?'

The boy hesitated, glancing at the TV screen and then back at his mother. After a moment, he put down the controller. 'Okay,' he said, 'I'll give it a try.'

The rest of the afternoon was spent playing outside. His mother explained the rules of each game and they laughed, ran around, and played till they were out of breath.

The boy discovered that he enjoyed these games as much as his video games. 'Ollie Ollie Oxen FREE!' he shouted, laughing as he ran around the yard.

As the sun began to set, they returned to the house. The boy looked at his paused game and then at his mother. 'Maybe we can play outside again tomorrow?' he suggested.

His mother smiled, pleased with the change. 'Absolutely,' she replied. And so, the quest for the princess was put on hold, as a new kind of fun was discovered.
