A shepherd boy, bored of the mundane task of watching sheep, decided to amuse himself. He took a deep breath and cried out, 'Wolf! Wolf! The Wolf is chasing the sheep!'

The villagers, concerned about their sheep, came running up the hill. Upon reaching the top, they found no wolf, only a laughing boy. They warned him not to cry wolf when there was none.

Later, the boy repeated his trick, shouting 'Wolf! Wolf!'. The villagers, though annoyed, ran up the hill again only to find no wolf. They sternly warned the boy once more before leaving.

The boy, finding amusement in the villagers' frustration, watched them grumble their way down the hill. He couldn't help but grin at his successful prank.

Suddenly, a real wolf appeared, prowling around the flock. The boy, terrified, leaped to his feet and cried out as loudly as he could, 'Wolf! Wolf!'

But the villagers, believing it to be another one of the boy's tricks, ignored his cries for help. They didn't come to chase away the wolf, leaving the boy and the sheep at the mercy of the predator.

At sunset, the villagers wondered why the boy hadn't returned with their sheep. They climbed up the hill and found the boy weeping, the flock scattered.

The boy explained through his tears, 'There really was a wolf! I cried out for help, but no one came. The flock has scattered.' The villagers looked at each other, regret written on their faces.

An old man stepped forward to comfort the boy. He put his arm around the youth, assuring him they would help look for the lost sheep in the morning.

As they walked back to the village, the old man gently reprimanded the boy, 'Nobody believes a liar... even when he is telling the truth.' The boy nodded, a hard lesson learned.

The shepherd boy, filled with regret, understood the consequences of his actions. He promised himself to be honest and responsible, ensuring such a mishap would never happen again.

The villagers, though upset, decided to give the boy another chance. They hoped this experience would change him for the better, marking the end of his mischievous ways.
