Shravan Kumar was a devoted son, known for his unwavering love and obedience towards his elderly and blind parents.

Living in a humble village, Shravan dedicated his life to serving his parents, who longed to visit sacred shrines across the land.

To fulfill their wish, Shravan fashioned two large baskets, tied them to a sturdy bamboo pole, and carried his parents on his shoulders.

For days and nights, Shravan carried them, never once complaining or slowing down, showing his unwavering dedication and love.

One day, as they neared the holy River Sarayu, Shravan's parents asked him to fetch water for them.

Shravan went to the river, dutifully carrying his earthen pot. As he bent to fill it, he was unaware of the approaching danger.

King Dasharatha, who was hunting nearby, mistook the sound of the water for a wild animal and shot an arrow in its direction.

The arrow struck Shravan, wounding him gravely. Hearing the moan, King Dasharatha rushed to the spot, only to find the innocent Shravan bleeding.

Realizing his mistake, the king was filled with remorse. Shravan, in his dying breath, requested the king to take water to his parents and inform them of what had happened.

King Dasharatha, shaken and sorrowful, carried out Shravan's last wish. He brought the water to the blind couple and broke the tragic news.

Upon hearing about their son’s death, the grief-stricken parents cursed the king, foretelling that he would one day suffer the pain of losing a beloved son, just as they had.

Shortly after, they passed away in deep sorrow. The loss of their devoted son was too great for them to bear.

This story of Shravan Kumar remains a timeless testament to the power of devotion and the consequences of unintended actions.

It also foreshadows the pain King Dasharatha would endure in the future when his own son, Lord Rama, was exiled from Ayodhya.
