For his journey, Mansa Moussa prepared a grand caravan filled with his people, camels, and whole lots of gold. Everyone was excited about the long journey ahead. And they took a lot of water to travel through the desert.

The first challenge came when they had to cross the vast Sahara desert. The sun was scorching, and the sand seemed endless. But Mansa Moussa led his people with courage. Sometimes they would stop and rest in an oasis and have some rest under the palm-tree.

At night, under the vast sea of stars, Mansa Moussa would tell his people stories of bravery and kindness to lift their spirits. He would also explain how to find one's way following the stars up in the sky.

One day, they encountered a lonely traveler in the desert, tired and thirsty. Mansa Moussa invited him to join their group and shared his water and food. And he took some rest. What is your name asked the traveler? My friends call me Kankan Moussa, the people of the Mali Empire call me Mansa Moussa, the king of kings.

During their stay, Mansa Moussa used his gold to help the poor and needy in the city. His actions won him the admiration and respect of the people of Mecca. No one had been that generous before him and no one would be after him. He gave gold powder for those who needed it.

When it was time to leave, Mansa Moussa felt a little sad. But he knew he had to return home. He thanked his new friends and promised them to visit again. On his way back, when visiting a town he would stop and leave gold to help the poor.
